BILLS WITH WHICH TEACHERS SHOULD BE FAMILIAR:
SB 161: This bill is similar to HB 151 above. The only difference
is that this bill would require divestiture of investments in any foreign corporation
doing business in Sudan. It would prove harmful to STRS investments too and
far surpasses Ohio legislative responsibility. As in HB 151, STRS has agreed
to develop a policy consistent with fiduciary standards which the fund would
have a goal to voluntarily divest 50% Iran/Sudan related investments by Dec.
31, 2007. In August, the STRS Board will review a potential Policy and Program
for voluntary divestiture with the goal of lowering STRS Ohio's exposure. CONTACT
