Thanks to Dennis Leone, John Lazares and CORE, STRS is now:
1. More transparent.
2. Holding Board meetings that are not just to rubber stamp policy and operations.
3. More accountable to its members.
4. Regaining much of the trust of its members.
5. Asking Board members to have contracts in hand before they vote on them.
Other CORE Successes:
1. Convictions of former Executive
Director Herb Dyer, and six former board members on ethics charges.
2. John Lazares wrote a new ethics policy now in place at STRS.
3. Dennis Leone initiated changes in travel, cars, credit card use, and other perks which were a great savings to our pension fund.
4. Dennis Leone pushed through new restrictions reducing the Director's ability to spend funds and change policies without board approval.
5. STRS subsidies for the employee fitness center, cafeteria and child day care are now cost neutral.
