Mission Statement Concerned Ohio Retired Educators, or simply CORE, is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to restore and guarantee retirement benefits, including health care, to all Ohio educators under the control of the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS). Goals:

  1. To insure that retirement benefits are secure and adequate, now and in the future.
  2. Restore the Health Care Stabilization Fund to adequately guarantee health care for all STRS health care enrollees (members, spouses, and dependents) now and in the future.
  3. To recover any past, present, or future excessive and inappropriate spending of STRS funds by the STRS Board and/or any STRS employee.
  4. Establish a fair and equitable balance of active and retired members to serve on the STRS board.
  5. To research and collect information about STRS, legislation, and other related matters, and to report and distribute this information to Ohio's current and future retired educators.
How can I become a part of CORE? Participation in CORE is open to all Ohio educators, both retired and active, and their immediate family members, both retired and active. CORE is organized around an Advisory Board, and subcommittees are organized as the need arises. CORE supporters and the Advisory Board meet after each STRS meeting in Columbus. All educators are encouraged to attend the monthly STRS meeting and the CORE meeting. CORE has also been meeting monthly with the director of STRS and his staff; a better understanding of the positions of both CORE and STRS has been a result of these meetings. Changes in the operation of STRS have occurred, but more change is needed. We must all work together to ensure the success of CORE and to preserve retirement rights for Ohio's educators.
